The D-Roc Standard is a player-driven instrument that sits on the rockier side of the tone tracks, but it’s far from a one-trick pony. With a 4-position Quad-Tone rotary pickup selector that offers four distinct voicings, the D-Roc Standard will help you deliver your own sound to your audience in its purest possible form. Select from 4- or 5-string models, and choose from four available finishes, including Gloss Metalflake Aquamarine, Blue to Purple Colorshift, Metallic Black and Vintageburst.
The body is constructed from an African mahogany called khaya, with a five-piece maple neck and pau ferro fingerboard. Each of the four color options have been finished with a polyurethane coat, making this D-Roc really stand out from the crowd. The growing endorsee list gives an indication of where they’re proving popular – current users include Jermaine Blandford (Jazmine Sullivan), Pete Griffin (Dethklok) and Nick Campbell (Scary Pockets).
“In terms of performance, features, hardware and overall sound, the D-Roc Standard is a top-class performer. Dingwall have produced a winner that carries with it all of the design ethos and attention to detail that you would expect from Sheldon Dingwall.”
The D-Roc Standard is triple-loaded with FD-3n passive pickups. The key to their punchy tone is the use of Neodymium magnets; higher output means a more aggressive sound. Using the 4-position Quad-Tone pickup selector, you can choose to operate just the bridge pickup, the bridge and middle pickups, just the middle pickup, or the bridge, middle and neck pickup in unison. The remaining controls comprise passive tone and master volume.
“Selecting one pickup setting and panning across the tone control reveals a distinct amount of tonal light and shade. Throw different playing styles into the mix and then apply the pickup combinations, and you won’t be short on tonal options and flexibility.”
While the D-Roc Standard 4-string features an adjustable Hipshot bridge, which has been specially designed for Dingwall, the 5-string version sees the introduction of our minimalist bridge. This new bridge unit has been specially designed to be lightweight, solid and easy to adjust (a single wrench adjusts both the action and intonation). The hidden ball pocket also simplifies restringing, making the process quicker and easier than ever before. The remaining hardware, from the knurled control knobs to the edge-mounted jack socket, is plated with smoked nickel.
